Tuesday marked the start of “Two Sessions”the most important political event held in China every year.

Lei Jun is a National People’s Congress representative, founder, chairman/CEO and chairman of Xiaomiis the chairman of Kingsooftannounced his suggestions, including: accelerating mass production of autonomous vehicles; developing the industry eco-system of intelligent connected new-energy vehicles; promoting high-quality development of artificial intelligence terminals; optimizing design of new-energy vehicle license plates; and strengthening governance in areas affected by illegal infringements through “AI voice-simulation” and “face-swapping.”

Lei Jun suggested, in particular, accelerating the nationwide testing and verifying of autonomous vehicles. He also urged a mutual recognition mechanism to be established across provinces and regions by 2025 and a unified management system and process for autonomous vehicles throughout the country. Lei Jun, who prioritizes safety, suggested a green channel to test and verify autonomous vehicles nationwide. This would promote the rapid and mature implementation of autonomous driving technology.

Lei Jun also emphasized the need to clarify as soon as possible the timeframe for mass production autonomous vehicles, expand access and on-road efforts, and support more enterprises and vehicle types for pilot verification. The goal is to support mass production of functions like high-speed highway autonomy driving and urban autonomous drive by 2026. This will accelerate the mass production of autonomous vehicles and their market launch to provide better vehicle experiences for users.

Lei Jun proposed that, in the area of artificial intelligence, he would strive to establish a first artificial intelligence terminal system by 2027. He also suggested that he would lead the formation a global leading artificial intelligence standard system by 2030.

Lei Jun proposed that the design of new-energy vehicle license plates should include intelligent features, such as integrating vehicle traffic card functions, and adding QR codes to the appearance of the plates to help with traffic management and emergency response.
