BANGKOK – (ACN Newswire), June 27, 2025 –Thailand has affirmed their commitment to ethical and inclusive AI by hosting the thirdUNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI by 2025, a Center to Support AI in Economy, Society, and Human Rights, at Centara Grande at CentralWorld, from June 24 to 27, 2018. The event brought together 104 countries. In her keynote speech, H.E. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said, “AI is no longer a future, it’s the power shaping our current,” and that Thailand is prepared to lead the region by ensuring AI serves public good and leaves nobody behind.
Prime Minister Shinawatra outlined Thailand’s key AI priorities, including harnessing AI to make a positive impact on sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and other sectors; addressing threats like disinformation and deepfakes, and putting the people at the heart of the AI transformation. She emphasized that AI should support workers, not replace, and encouraged investment in reskilling for human dignity.
Thailand’s National AI Strategy is led by the National AI Committee and aims to drive economic and social transformation through AI by 2020, with a value creation target of at least 4 billion Baht. The focus is on empowering SMEs with AI tools to lower costs, boost productivity, and improve global competitiveness.
During this Forum, the PM also held a bilateral with Ms. Audrey AzoulayDirector-General of UNESCO. Both sides agreed to intensify cooperation on AI ethics. Thailand’s AI Governance Practice Center, or AIGPC, was designated as a regional partner. AIGPC will support Asia-Pacific capacity building, certification programs and knowledge-sharing.
Mr. Prasert, Minister of Digital Economy and Society and Deputy Prime Minister, reaffirmed Thailand’s alignment with UNESCO’s ethical AI framework. Thailand has adopted Readiness Assessment Methodology(RAM) for evaluating its AI readiness. This will inform future policy and investment development.
Thailand will also be hosting Bangkok Ai Week with the theme Unleashing Digital Economy for Everyone, . This event will feature exhibitions, workshops, interactive events, and more across the city.
