TVC launches Nigeria’s First AI Multilingual News Anchors

TVC News is the first Nigerian broadcaster that has introduced artificial intelligence (AI), news anchors who deliver bulletins to five major local dialects.

The innovation is part a larger push by TVC News (a subsidiary of TVC Communications) to modernise their newsroom using emerging technologies. The AI anchors were designed to complement human reporters by expanding the station’s reach across Nigeria’s six geopolitical regions and tapping into underserved audience in their native language, TVC Communications stated in a press release.

The statement stated that “This pioneering technology represents a significant landmark in the broadcasting histories of Nigeria.” “Our AI anchors complement and assist our Human Capital Assets to deliver and enhance our company’s strategic objectives, which include wider cover, the fusion and broadening of our footprints on a vast network, and most importantly, communicating to our diverse audiences in the language they can understand.”

The move shows how Nigeria’s top broadcasters are beginning the embrace automation in content distribution, combining AI scalability and editorial oversight to navigate an ever-changing media landscape.

The company claims that the AI news anchors will be able to deliver news in five languages: English, Yoruba (also known as Yoruba), Hausa (also known as Igbo), Igbo and Pidgin.

TVC News acknowledged the possibility that the launch of the new service would be met with skepticism. This is especially true in light of the recent rise in deepfakes and misinformation. It said that it was implementing strict editorial control and digital watermarking in order to ensure accuracy, integrity and regulatory compliance.

The company stated that all AI-generated content will be vetted and approved by human editors. The anchors will also operate within a framework of oversight aligned to the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.

“Our AI anchors will allow us to take our coverage to the next step as we demonstrate our commitment to leveraging innovation to drive growth through technology,” said Victoria Ajayi.

The rollout marks a change in the way African newsrooms can scale content in local language, broaden access and respond to increasing demands for reliable and real-time information.
