The Cortex Hub has unveiled the MCP Hackathon Africa, an ambitious continent-wide initiative aimed at integrating African languages, cultures, and development priorities into the future of Artificial Intelligence. This groundbreaking event is set to run for eight weeks, spanning over 40 cities across Africa from September to November 2025.
Uniting Innovators Across Africa to Shape AI’s Future
The hackathon will convene a diverse group of participants-including developers, researchers, students, and startups-to collaboratively build solutions leveraging the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is an innovative open standard designed to enable applications to provide large language models with locally relevant, structured data. This approach ensures AI systems can better understand and respond to the unique contexts of African communities.
The event will culminate in a grand continental showcase on November 11-12, 2025, in Cape Town. Here, finalists will present their projects to a global audience of investors, incubators, and technology experts, highlighting Africa’s growing influence in the AI ecosystem.
