Salesforce announces major hiring drive to sell AI products (19459000)
Salesforce confirmed plans to hire 2,000 additional sales representatives to handle increased demand for their new AI tools.
Marc Benioff, CEO of the company, recently announced at an event that thousands of new workers would be added to the headcount of 72,600 at the start of 2024.
We’re adding a couple of thousand more salespeople to help us sell these products.” Benioff said. “For the 2,000 positions we’ve opened, we already had 9,000 referrals. It’s amazing.”

Salesforce, which has heavily invested in artificial intelligence over the past few years, will release its second generation Agentforce platform by February 2025. Slack, the Salesforce-owned communication platform, is also expected to receive updates.
Benioff is pushing the AI of the company to sales representatives, marketers, and customer service agents as Microsoft, which has a strong affiliation with ChatGPT maker OpenAI has a strong presence in the market.
Salesforce’s expansion plans are a double-edged sword, as thousands of employees will be given new opportunities but many others have been made redundant. The AI agent of the company handles 32,000 customer inquiries per week, while human intervention has been reduced from 10,000 cases to 5,000.
Plans to hire 2,000 additional staff members contrast with previous actions. Around 1,000 workers were laid off in two separate rounds in 2024 (via layoffs.fyi), while more than 8,000 left the company in both 2023 and 2022.
Salesforce’s layoffs in the past were part of a cost-cutting effort, but they could also be seen as a restructuring or a shift in priorities. In the three-month period ending October 31, the company’s revenue was $9.44 billion, an 8% increase over the previous year.
