ChatGPT Transforms into an Interactive AI App Hub

OpenAI has unveiled a significant enhancement to ChatGPT, shifting it from a simple AI conversational tool to a dynamic platform hosting a variety of integrated applications-all accessible within the chat interface.

Introducing In-Chat Apps: A Seamless Experience

At the 2025 DevDay event, OpenAI revealed that starting this Monday, users will be able to engage with popular services like Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Expedia, and Zillow directly inside ChatGPT, eliminating the need to switch between different websites or apps.

This upgrade effectively equips ChatGPT with a powerful extension, enabling it to assist with diverse tasks such as trip planning, coding tutorials, or graphic design, all within a single conversation.

From AI Chatbot to Multifunctional Platform

CEO Sam Altman emphasized that this development aims to create “a streamlined way for users to make meaningful progress,” whether that involves learning new skills, organizing travel, or managing creative projects.

Rather than just being a conversational AI, ChatGPT is evolving into a centralized hub where interactive, customizable applications coexist and respond contextually to user requests.

How It Works: The Model Context Protocol (MCP)

This new functionality is powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which integrates third-party apps directly into the chat environment. For example, you can type commands like, “Figma, convert this sketch into a flowchart,” or “Coursera, start a machine learning lesson,” and the respective app will launch inside the chat window, ready to assist.

During a live demonstration, a user requested directions, and ChatGPT instantly displayed an interactive map embedded within the conversation, showcasing the seamless integration.

Expanding Possibilities with Future Integrations

Imagine asking ChatGPT to curate a weekend playlist and having Spotify respond instantly, or planning a trip with Expedia without leaving the chat. Upcoming partnerships with services such as Uber, DoorDash, Instacart, and AllTrails promise to extend ChatGPT’s capabilities further-enabling users to order food, schedule rides, or organize outdoor adventures effortlessly.

Privacy and User Control Concerns

Despite the excitement, privacy remains a critical issue. OpenAI assures that developers will only access “the minimum necessary data,” but specifics about data scope-whether apps can view entire conversations or just the commands triggering them-remain unclear.

Additionally, when multiple apps compete for the same task, such as ordering dinner, questions arise about how ChatGPT will prioritize responses. Altman reassures that user experience will guide these decisions, aiming for smooth and intuitive interactions.

The Future of ChatGPT as a Tech Powerhouse

With this transformation, ChatGPT is positioning itself as a leading platform in the AI ecosystem, attracting widespread interest from developers and users alike. By embedding versatile apps directly into conversations, it’s redefining how we interact with technology-making AI not just a tool, but a comprehensive assistant for everyday life.
