Openai’s””https://openai.com/devday/””> DevDay 2025 (19459011) was a special event that focused on vibe coding. The company, who boasts of having more than 800,000,000 weekly active users on ChatGPT, has announced a number of new tools for developers at its annual event in San Francisco. The company announced a variety of new tools for developers at its annual event in San Francisco, including the ability to create apps directly within ChatGPT. This will eventually allow “mature experiences”once age verification has been implemented. Also, a toolkit was introduced that allows users to build and deploy their AI agents.
As part of OpenAI’s apparent attempt to turn ChatGPT from a backend development environment to a frontend one, the company announced their new Apps SDK (Software Development Kit), which will allow developers to pull in third-party apps for tasks. In a demonstration, the company demonstrated ChatGPT working together with Zillow in order to generate a map showing homes for sale in Pittsburgh. Zillow generated an interactive map using the prompt and the user could ask additional questions on the map. ChatGPT users can create tools by using third-party applications. OpenAI states that Apps SDK will be available immediately for the Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. Booking.com, Canva and Coursera will all be supported right out of the box. The company has also announced that it will be offering support for Uber, OpenTable and Target in the near future. Users will be able create and use apps in preview mode for now. Later this year, developers will be able submit apps. A directory of apps is planned to allow developers to share their vibe-based creations.
Apps SDK will be releasing many new features. Altman said monetization guidelines are on the way. OpenAI’s App Developer Guidelines state that “apps must be suitable to general audiences, which includes users aged 13-17.” Apps cannot be designed to target children under 13, but that will change. It reads:”Support will be available for mature (18+), experiences once age verification and controls have been implemented.”
Recently, the company introduced age verification tools to move underage users into ChatGPT experiences with stricter guidelines after a wrongful-death lawsuit filed against the firmfrom the family of a teenage who died by suicide following extensive conversations with the ChatGPT chatbot. Once it has hammered out these details, it appears that it will open the floodgates for more “adult” features.
The company has also released its AgentKitAPI (Application Programming Interface) which will allow users build their own AI agentic tools. OpenAI’s Agent is a significant extension of the earlier system, which promised to navigate the web independently to complete tasks assigned by the user.
Continuing the vibe coding theme of AgentKit, its primary feature is Agent Builder. This allows users to program AI agent’s functionalities through a visual interface. Altman described it like Canva, which makes it more accessible for those who are not as technical.
