Netflix will roll out generative AI advertisements in 2026

The company also revealed that they have now reached almost 100 million ad subscriptions

Netflix is introducing a new type ad that uses generative AI in 2026.

These new ads were announced during the latest Upfront presentation () and will run during content playback. Netflix displayed an AI-generated product image over a Stranger Thingsinspired background to show what it will look like. Netflix says that these ads can be shown during streaming or when the pause button is pressed.

Although some may scoff at generative AI’s use, it is important to note that this only applies to those who subscribe to the lowest tier of the streamer, which costs $7.99. Those who pay more to have an ad free experience won’t be able to see this.

Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s vice president of advertising, shared some interesting insights on ads on the platform during the Upfront. She noted that Netflix subscribers “pay as much interest to midroll advertisements as they do to shows and movies themselves.” In addition, she said that Netflix ad-tier subscribers spend on average 41 hours per month using the service.

Lastly, the company confirmed at the Upfront that they have reached 94,000,000 ad-tier members. This is a huge leap from the 40,000,000 it reported around this time last year.
