iPhone is the primary camera for many people in the world. Not only because it’s so good, but because there are so many great apps on the App Store. This year, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best iPhone apps for editing and shooting video.
Table Of Contents
- FiLMiC Pro (Professional)

FiLMiC Pro (
) FiLMiC Pro, the most popular app for iPhone users who want to shoot video, is the best choice. The app has multiple manual controls to adjust focus, ISO, framerate, zoom, and other settings.
There are also options to quickly switch between color profiles, HDR modes, ProRes codecs, and resolutions. Pro users have access to gamma curve controls, image stabilization, movie presets, audio synchronization, and downsampling.
FiLMiC Pro is available on the App Store for $14.99. Some extra features can be unlocked through in-app purchases.
Bad
From developers of Halide comes Kino, an app that does more than record videos on the iPhone with manual controls. The app allows users to add a cinematic look to their videos by using the LUTs that are included. The interface is simple to use but offers professional tools for filming.
The app offers a “Starter” mode in which the settings are chosen automatically, but you can change everything if you wish. Kino was recently updated with Camera Control support and 4K 120 fps video capture for iPhone 16 and 16 Pro owners.
Kino is available as a subscription-free, one-time purchase for $19.99 on the App Store. It works with any iPhone running iOS 17 or later, but some features require an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro.
Final Cut Camera
Do you want to avoid spending money on an app that unlocks manual controls for filming but don’t want to pay for it? Apple launched Final Cut Camera last year, a free app.
Final Cut Camera is an app from Apple that lets creators “wirelessly connect and remotely direct each video angle with powerful pro controls.” Although the app was first presented as a companion tool for controlling the iPhone camera from the iPad, it also works on the iPhone as a standalone app.
With the app, users can adjust things like white balance and manual focus while monitoring zebras and measuring audio. It also provides ISO and shutter speed controls, as well as making it easy to switch between resolutions and video formats.
The app is available for free on the App Store and requires an iPhone running iOS 17.6 or later (while some features require the latest iPhones).
Blackmagic Camera
Blackmagic Camera is another option for getting professional shooting tools for free. It comes from the same company that makes the renowned video editor DaVinci Resolve.
The Blackmagic Camera app for iOS is inspired by the interface of Blackmagic’s own cameras. It provides many manual controls such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and tint. Users can also easily switch between different lenses, frame-per-second options, stabilization levels, and focus adjustments. A recent update has added even more features and Camera Control support for iPhone 16 models.
Blackmagic Camera is available for free on the App Store. It requires an iPhone XR or later running iOS 17 or later. Keep in mind that some features (such as the Log color profile) are only available for specific iPhone models due to hardware limitations.
DoubleTake
DoubleTake was created by the same developers as FiLMiC Pro. This app allows users to shoot videos using two iPhone cameras simultaneously. Apple highlighted the app at its iPhone 11 Pro launch in 2019.
You can choose two different lenses to record a video at the same time, which is great for multi-cam projects. Users can combine the front camera with one of the rear cameras, or even use two different rear lenses. There’s also an option to easily create a single video using multiple lenses with a split-screen effect.
In addition to the multi-cam features, users can adjust and choose frame rate, resolution, focus, and exposure.
DoubleTake costs $3.99 and is available on the App Store without in-app purchases. It’s worth noting that the multi-cam feature requires an iPhone 11 or later.
Carousel camera
Many people record videos vertically for social networks. However, they don’t look good on a computer or TV. What if we could create a video that works in both orientations?
Carousel Camera records videos using a square format to enable a great trick when you’re watching them on your phone. This way you can rotate your iPhone vertically or horizontally and you’ll never see black bars.
And if you want to export the video, the app offers options to save it in 16:9, 9:16, and other aspect ratios.
Carousel Camera is available for free on the App Store, but some features require a $0.99 in-app purchase.
LumaFusion
LumaFusion, a well-known iOS video editor, has become a necessity for professional editors who work with iPad. The app is also available on iPhone with the same powerful features.
With LumaFusion, editors can work with multiple video, audio, image, or title tracks. There are advanced options for adjusting colors, effects, cropping, speed, and more. It’s almost like having a portable version of a desktop video editor on your phone.
Once you have finished editing your video, there are settings to export it in different resolutions, codecs, frame rates, and sources.
LumaFusion costs $29.99 and is available on the App Store. Some extra features are available through in-app purchases.
iMovie (
) And if you are looking for something that is more affordable and easier to use, Apple’s iMovie is always a good option. Apple’s video editing software, originally designed for Macs, can now be downloaded onto iOS devices.
iMovie brings an extremely intuitive interface to let anyone edit their videos directly on the iPhone. Users can use the app to crop, cut, adjust speed, and add effects to videos. There are also options to add titles, songs, sound effects, and even edit videos recorded with Cinematic Mode on iPhone 13 and later.
iMovie is free and can be downloaded on the App Store. There are no in-app purchases, but some features are only available for the latest iPhone and iPad models.
