Chinese ride hailing giant Didi and state owned automaker GAC are set to begin volume deliveries of their L4 self-driving vehicles by the end this year. By 2026, passengers will be able to hail an autonomous vehicle in parts of Beijing and Guangzhou, a southern Chinese city. Zhang Bo, cofounder of Didi, and chief executive of Didi’s autonomous driving business, announced the news during GAC’s annual Tech Day on April 12th in Guangzhou where GAC has its headquarters. The companies unveiled their autonomous vehicle in early 2023. This was followed by a $298m funding round led by GAC into Didi’s Self-Driving Unit last October. GAC, which is authorized by the Chinese government to test Level 3 semi autonomous cars, will begin selling such vehicles in the 4th quarter of this year. Chairman and president Feng Xingya announced during the event.[TechNodereportingDidi announcementin Chinese]
