ChatGPT for macOS is about become more useful when it comes to coding. ChatGPT’s latest update (version 1.2025.057) allows it to edit code directly in an integrated development environment. No need to copy-and-paste. You can find a complete list of supported IDEs at Openai’swebsite lists a number of notable inclusions, including Apple’s Xcode and Visual Studio Code, as well as Jetbrains’ Android Studio and PyCharm.
OpenAI reports that IDE integration is one of the most requested features by macOS users, since the company released “works with app” in November. You can use the integration if you’re a Plus subscriber. The updated app will be available next week for Enterprise, Edu, and Free users.
Perhaps unsurprisingly this feature arrives just as “vibecoding” enters the popular lexicon. It is not known to the uninitiated that vibecoding is a type of coding which uses AI tools such as ChatGPT and the power of vibrations in order to program apps and video games. It may seem like a joke, but vibecoding is a real phenomenon. In a video titled “Vibe Coding is the Future,” Jared Friedman, a managing partner at Y Combinator, said a quarter of the startup accelerator’s W25 cohort have a code base that was 95 percent generated by AI. Garry Tan, CEO of Y Combinator added to the video.
