What is the cost of ChatGPT? OpenAI pricing plans: Everything you need to Know

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s AI chatbot platform powered by AI, is constantly adding new features. The chatbot memory feature allows you to save your preferences so that you can have more personalized chats. ChatGPT has an upgraded voice feature that lets you interact with the platform in real-time. It offers a store, the GPT Store, for AI-powered services and applications.

You might be wondering how much ChatGPT costs. This is a more difficult question to answer than one might think. OpenAI offers a variety of ChatGPT plans, both paid for and free. These plans are aimed at a wide range of customers, including individuals, nonprofits, small and medium businesses, educational institutions and enterprises.

We’ve created a guide to ChatGPT pricing so you can keep track of all the subscription options. We’ll update it as new plans are introduced.

ChatGPT free

ChatGPT’s free version was once quite limited. OpenAI’s new AI models and capabilities have changed that. ChatGPT users who are on the free plan get access to OpenAI GPT-4o Mini model, responses enhanced with web content, access to GPT Store and the ability upload files and photos. Free users have limited access to advanced features such as Advanced Voice mode, GPT-4o and o3 mini. Users can also save chat preferences as “memories”and leverage advanced data analyses, a ChatGPT tool that can “reason” over (i.e. analyze data from) spreadsheets and pdfs. The free ChatGPT plan does have some downsides. These include daily capacity limits for the GPT-4o and file uploads. ChatGPT users who choose the free plan also miss out on advanced features. We discuss these in more detail below.

ChatGPT plus

ChatGPT is a powerful ChatGPT that costs $20 per month. ChatGPT Plus

ChatGPT offers a higher capacity than ChatGPT Free — users can send up to 80 messages per three hours to GPT-4o and unlimited messages to GPT4o Mini — plus access OpenAI’s reasoning model, including o3 mini, o1 preview, and o1 mini. Subscribers of ChatGPT Plus have access to multimodal features such as Advanced Voice Mode with video and screen-sharing, but they may reach their daily limit. ChatGPT Plus users also have limited access to the latest tools, such as OpenAI’s deep-research agent and Sora video generation.

ChatGPT Plus users also get an upgraded data-analysis feature, powered by GPT-4o. This feature can create interactive charts and table from datasets. Users can upload files directly from Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or their devices.

Chatgpt for

ChatGPT pro is for those who want to have near-unlimited use of OpenAI products and to be able to test new features first. The plan costs $200 per month. ChatGPT Pro subscribers get unlimited access to GPT-4o and Advanced Voice Mode. The $200 tier includes 120 deep research questions per month as well as access o1 pro mode which uses more computing power than the version of ChatGPT plus. ChatGPT Pro users can also access OpenAI’s web browsing agent, Operator, as well as more video generation with Sora. OpenAI releases most of its new features first to ChatGPT users. These users also get priority access to GPT-4o during times of high demand.

ChatGPT team

Let’s say you manage a small company or own a non-profit and need more than one ChatGPT licence, plus collaborative features. ChatGPT Team may be the right solution for you: It costs $30 per month per user or $25 per month per user billed annually up to 149 users.

ChatGPT provides a dedicated workspace as well as admin tools for managing teams. ChatGPT Team users have access to the latest OpenAI models, as well as the tools mentioned above that allow ChatGPT to analyze, edit and extract information from files. ChatGPT Team also allows people to create and share custom apps based on OpenAI Models. These apps are similar to those in the GPT Store. These apps can be tailored to specific departments or use cases, or tuned based on team data.

ChatGPT enterprise

OpenAI’s corporate ChatGPT plan is designed for large organizations. This includes any organization that needs more than 149 ChatGPT licences. OpenAI does not publish the price for ChatGPT Enterprise. According to the cost per user is $60 per month, with a minimum 150 users and 12-month contract.

ChatGPT Enterprise is a “enterprise grade” version of ChatGPT that adds privacy and data analytics capabilities, along with enhanced performance and customization. There is a dedicated workspace with an admin console that includes tools to manage the way employees use ChatGPT. This includes integrations for single sign on, domain verification, and a dashboard that shows usage and engagement statistics.

ChatGPT Enterprise includes shared conversation templates that allow users to create internal workflows, bots, and bots using ChatGPT. Credits to OpenAI’s platform API are also available to companies who wish to create custom ChatGPT solutions. ChatGPT Enterprise users also have priority access to OpenAI models and lines, as well as a dedicated account team and training. They’re also eligible for Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with OpenAI. These agreements are required by U.S. Law for companies who wish to use tools such as ChatGPT for private health information, like medical records.

ChatGPT Edu

ChatGPT Edu a newer offering by OpenAI, is a version ChatGPT designed for universities, students, faculty, staff researchers, and campus operations teams. We haven’t yet made pricing public or reported it secondhand, but will update this section when we do. ChatGPT Edu, which is similar to ChatGPT enterprise except that it supports SCIM (an open protocol for cloud identity and access management), is a product similar to ChatGPT. OpenAI plans to add SCIM to ChatGPT in the future. ChatGPT Edu offers the same features as ChatGPT Enterprise: data analysis tools, admin control, single sign-on and enhanced security, as well as the ability to create and share custom chatbots. ChatGPT Edu comes with the latest OpenAI model and, more importantly, increased message limit.

OpenAI for Nonprofits (19659024) OpenAI for Nonprofits (19459031) is OpenAI’s first foray into tech solutions for nonprofits. It’s not so much a standalone ChatGPT plan as it is a range discounts for eligible organisations.

ChatGPT Team is available to nonprofits at a discounted price of $20 per month. ChatGPT Enterprise is available at a 50% discount for larger nonprofits, which comes out to $30 per user.

However, the eligibility requirements are quite stringent. OpenAI does not accept applications from academic, religious, medical or government institutions. This article was first published on June 15, 2020. On February 25, 2025 it was updated to include new features, such as o1 and Deep Research, as well as ChatGPT Pro.
