Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes is officially cast as President Coriolanus in Lionsgate’s upcoming film prequel in their Hunger Games franchise. FranchiseThe Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Raaping Fiennes will play another YA villain by stepping in the shoes of Panem’s infamous dictator.
The cast of the adaptation of Suzanne Collins bestselling book is stacked, with Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak and Mckenna grace, Jesse Plemons Kelvin Harrison Jr. Maya Hawke Lili Taylor Ben Wang. Fiennes takes the role from both Donald Sutherland and the late great.

Nina Jacobson, the producer of the film, said that they wanted to honor Donald Sutherland and have one of his greatest actors portray President Snow 24 years prior to Katniss everdeen entering the arena. “Working with Ralph was on my bucket list ever since he traumatized and scarred me for life back in Schindler’s List. It’s an honor to welcome him into the Hunger Games.“
The prequel novel, written by Suzanne Collins, was published on 18 March. It takes readers to Panem 20 years before the original trilogy of films that starred Jennifer Lawrence and Woody Harrelson as her mentor Haymitch. The prequel will explore Haymitch’s past, now played by Zada. It will also include his participation in the Fifty-fifth Hunger Games (also known as the Second Quarter Quell).
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Raaping The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence, a veteran franchise director. It is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2026.
