Taobao Malaysia announced plans to launch a Malay language interface in June 2025. This is in response to the growing need for a more localised shopping experience. This update will cater for the language preferences of Malaysians and further strengthen Taobao’s cross-border ecommerce capabilities in the area.
This announcement comes at a time when Taobao is enjoying a surge in global popularity. It has recently climbed to second place in the United States and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom. And it has claimed the top spot in France. Taobao is the second most downloaded iOS shopping application in Malaysia, a sign of strong consumer interest and trust. Taobao is the backbone of China’s ecommerce ecosystem. Taobao has a wide range of high-quality and affordable products. Taobao is a hub of trend discovery, lifestyle inspiration and personalised experiences.
Taobao’s localisation efforts began in Malaysia with the launch in September 2024 of its English interface, powered by advanced AI technologies that automatically translate platform content. The app supports bilingual customer support in English and Chinese to help users navigate product listings.
This platform has simplified the shopping experience by displaying prices in Malaysian Ringgits (MYR) as well as streamlining the user interface to make it more familiar. Taobao is backed by Antom, Cainiao and has a robust payment and logistic infrastructure.
Malaysians can choose from a variety of payment methods, including credit and debit cards, online banking and e-wallets. Order tracking in real time is also available in the app.
Taobao is available to download for free on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Follow Taobao Malaysia via Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X to get the latest updates or log in to explore the app.
