Sony reportedly downscaling its smartphone business in Europe

According to a story in the Finnish newspaper Finnish mobile, Sony is withdrawing its smartphones from local markets and focusing on online channels. Sony’s latest smartphones, including the Xperia 1 VII are currently unavailable from Sony Finland’s and its partners’ websites, and are expected remain unavailable.

Sony confirmed the Xperia 1 VII will not be sold in Finland. The company is focusing on “online shopping channels” to provide customers with a better shopping experience. Sony’s flagship is available in select European countries via its online store or Amazon.

The story is the same in other European markets. In most European countries, the Xperia 1 VII is not listed on Sony’s website. Germany and the United Kingdom stand out as notable exceptions.

According to reports, Sony is indeed scaling back its smartphone business on the European market. It doesn’t look good for the future of Xperia smartphones, especially with the problems Sony has been experiencing with its Xperia 1 VII on its home market in Japan.
