Chinese auto-driving startup Momenta is testing a chip that is specifically designed for advanced driver-assistance, and is expected to compete with mature offerings from established competitors such as NVIDIA’s DRIVE OrinX processors. Local media publication 36Kr published the news on Tuesday. According to the report, Momenta, a company that specializes in developing software for assisted and autonomous driving, began manufacturing its own custom silicon in 2023 and hired core members of the chip unit at Chinese smartphone maker Oppo. According to sources familiar with the matter, Momenta is expanding its overseas footprint. Its autonomous test vehicles will be available in Munich soon as part of a collaboration between Uber and robotaxi to launch robotaxi service. Momenta, backed up by major automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and General Motors, will also reportedly provide advanced driving assistance features to some overseas models from Chinese automaker SAIC. This model will be sold in the UK, Germany and Australia.[36Kr (in Chinese)
