Perplexity now has its own ‘Deep Research Tool’

in a Perplexity announced a new tool, Deep Research, on Friday in a blog post. It can do “in-depth analysis and research” to provide detailed reports to answer your questions. The tool is free for limited usage. OpenAI’sDeep Research features for ChatGPT were announced just a few weeks ago. This was in response to Google’s announcement of Deep Research on Geminiin December. Perplexity’s tool will initially be available on the web, but will soon be available for iOS, Android, and Mac apps.

Perplexity says its Deep Research “excels at a range of expert-level tasks — from finance and marketing to product research” and takes about 2-4 minutes to come up with an answer, during which it “performs dozens of searches, reads hundreds of sources, and reasons through the material.” Once finished, its reports can be shared or exported as a PDF. The company claims that it outperforms its competitors, including OpenAI’s DeepSeek-R1 and o3 mini and o1, on the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark. It scored a 21.1 accuracy score. According to a company tweet, free users will only be able to perform five queries a day, while Pro subscribers get 500.
