Pebble fans have seen good things come to them who wait. Waiting yearsThe beloved epaper smartwatch brand that predated and outshone the Apple Watch is about to make a proper return. Eric Migicovsky, founder of Pebble, has finalized the design of the new Pebble Time 2 watch.
This is the return of retro minimalism and custom watch face that made the original such a cult favorite.
Migicovsky gained the intellectual property for Pebble earlier this year, and then a deal was made to reclaim it. Name itselfCore Devices was able to rebrand their Core Time 2 as Pebble Time 2 by rebranding it.
Final design, Thewas revealed today, featuring a stainless steel 316 on the front and back. It also features knurled stainless buttons, inspired by Pebble Time Steel. It also has slimmer bezels and flatter glass to improve viewing angles. Other hardware changes include a RGB multicolor LED, a second mic, a sensor for compass, and a screw mounted back cover. The watch weighs approximately 48 grams with strap and 32.5 without.
Pebble Time 2 expands on previously announced specifications, such as a 1.5 inch 64-color epaper touchscreen, up 30 days of battery, heart rate monitoring and quick-release 22mm straps. It also includes a speaker, linear actuator vibration motor and waterproofing.
Customers who pre-ordered the Pebble 2 Duo can opt in to the Time 2 through an upcoming survey. Pre-orders are still available for those who want to own a Pebble in 2025.
Pebble Time 2 won’t match the Apple Watch in terms of health tracking depth or apps selection, but this is kind of the point. Pebble’s combination of a long-lasting battery, fun customization, and cross-platform compatibility is sure to be a hit with anyone who feels Apple Watch fatigue, or just wants something different.
I still remember fondly my first Pebble purchase at Best Buy. Apple Watch offers iPhone users the most feature-rich experience with smartwatches, but the Pebble Time 2 appeals to the part of my brain that loves gadgets. I can’t get enough to try it when it’s available.
