It will be a small, screenless device that is fully aware of the user’s environment. Altman described the device as a “third core” device, alongside a MacBook Pro or iPhone, and also an “AI companion”integrated into everyday life. OpenAI announced that it would acquire io – a startup founded last year by former Apple designer Jony Ive – in a $6.5 Billion equity deal. Ive will play a key role in OpenAI’s creative and design. Altman told employees that the acquisition would add $1 trillion to the market value of the company, as it would create a new category unlike any other. Other outfits have launched handheldswearables or glasses. Altman reportedly told staff that secrecy is crucial to prevent competitors from stealing the product before its launch.
