OpenAI to unveil AI browser with ChatGPT Integration [U]

Updated to include additional details including the name, Mac-only status and availability.

OpenAI is expected to make a product announcement at 10 am PT/1pm ET today, according a teaser posted on social media. The six-second video leaves little room for imagination as to what’s to come. It appears to show tabs.

OpenAI is developing a web-browser with ChatGPT integration since some time. Perplexity has already released its AI-focused Comet web browser, initially as part of a monthly subscription for $200, and then as a completely free tool.

OpenAI’s browser will be free or will it require a subscription? In a few hours, we’ll find out. The placeholder YouTube live stream says that the browser will launch first on Mac and be called ChatGPT Atlas. The video description states that versions for Windows, iOS and Android are “coming soon.”

It’s official now. OpenAI has announced that Atlas is now available for “Free users, Plus users, Pro users, and Go Users and can be downloaded from chatgpt.com/atlas (19459041]” starting today.

This preview includes something called ChatGPT Agent mode, which will browse the web for you and manage your browser. Agent mode requires Plus or Pro subscription.

ChatGPT Atlas includes optional memory support that bridges your conversations from ChatGPT to Atlas, creating a single knowledge database. The browser accepts natural language input to perform tasks such as cleaning up tabs or finding something you searched in a previous browsing session.
