Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 Series is getting some upgrades.

GeForce 590.26 Preview Driver, which is available at Nvidia’s developer siteallows owners of Ada Lovelace graphic cards (such as RTX 4080 or RTX 4060), to use Smooth Motion frame generation.

This previously reserved feature for RTX50 cards promises almost twice as much frame rate in many video games. reports VideoCardz.

Smooth Motion is Nvidia’s answer to AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames. The technology AI-generates images at the driver’s level that are then inserted in between two rendered frames. This allows games to appear smoother, without developers having to include the feature. Smooth Motion is particularly attractive for older games that have frame rate limitations and/or do not support DLSS.

Users on the Guru3D forum have reported a doubled frame rate for World of Warcraft, going from 82 FPS to 164. VideoCardz has shown that Company of Heroes 3 () also achieved similar leaps. Smooth Motion can make competitive and CPU-limited gaming more fluid, even if it doesn’t match the quality of DLSS 3 frame generation.

This feature is currently only available to developer accounts

The driver is a preview and requires the Nvidia Profile Inspection from GitHub Smooth Motion requires a developer account with Nvidia.

Users will have to wait until the final version to be able to access the feature without developer access. The free performance boost is a powerful argument for RTX-40 owners who want to get more FPS without upgrading their hardware.

Smooth Motion shows how Nvidia extends the life of the RTX 40 Series. The preview driver is a great way to test out the performance of your graphics card. The final version should be available soon.
