Introducing Nano Banana: The Latest Viral AI Image Editor in Gemini and Google Lens

What is Nano Banana?

Nano Banana has rapidly gained popularity as an innovative AI-powered image editor and generator, especially within the Gemini app ecosystem. This cutting-edge tool, powered by the Gemini 2.5.1 Flash Image model, is now integrated into Google Lens and AI Mode, offering users a seamless experience for creative image manipulation and generation.

How AI Mode Enhances Your Search Experience

The AI Mode interface in Google Search has been revamped for better usability. A distinctive plus (+) icon now appears at the bottom-left corner of the prompt input box, signaling where users can initiate AI-powered interactions. Meanwhile, Lens and Voice input options have been repositioned to the right side for easier access. Notably, the prompt display has shifted from a horizontal carousel to a vertical list, streamlining navigation through available AI suggestions.

Using the Banana Emoji to Create and Edit Images

A playful yet functional feature allows users to tap a 🍌 emoji to quickly access the Gallery, Camera, or image creation tools. Selecting the “Create Images” option prompts the user with “Describe your image,” encouraging text-based input to generate new visuals or modify existing photos. Once an image is created or edited, it can be downloaded or shared effortlessly, mirroring the Gemini app’s user-friendly workflow. Generated images carry a subtle Gemini Spark watermark in the bottom-right corner, ensuring brand recognition.

Google Lens Integration: A New Era of AI Creativity

Google Lens now prominently features Nano Banana through a dedicated Create tab, accessible after activating the “Search Live” mode. This update also incorporates the “Homework filter” directly into the Search interface, enhancing educational utility. To accommodate more filter options, text labels have been relocated beneath their respective icons, allowing multiple filters to be displayed side-by-side.

The Create filter is unique in that it defaults to the front-facing camera, encouraging users to generate selfies enhanced by AI. A lens switcher is conveniently placed on the right side for toggling between cameras. Capturing an image instantly transfers it to the AI Mode prompt box, where users can add descriptive prompts to customize the output further.

Availability and Expansion

Currently, Nano Banana’s AI Mode and Google Lens integration are available on Android devices in the United States, provided the user’s account is enrolled in the AI Mode Search Lab. This rollout is part of Google’s broader strategy to expand AI capabilities globally.

In a significant update this week, Google extended AI Mode support to 35 additional languages and over 40 new countries and territories, bringing the total coverage to 200 regions worldwide. This expansion underscores Google’s commitment to making AI-powered tools accessible to a diverse, global audience.

Looking Ahead: The Future of AI Image Editing

As AI-driven creativity tools like Nano Banana continue to evolve, users can expect more intuitive interfaces, richer editing options, and deeper integration across Google’s suite of products. With the rise of AI-generated content, these innovations are reshaping how we capture, edit, and share images in everyday life.
