Igor Babuschkin, head of engineering at xAI, said that

Grok was Elon Musk’s ChatGPT rival and temporarily refused to respond to “sources mentioning Elon Musk/Donald Trump spreading misinformation.” Babuschkin blamed an unnamed ex-OpenAI employee of xAI for updating Grok’s system prompt without approval after Grok users noticed the chatbot was instructed to not respond. Babuschkin, in response to questions on X said Grok’s internal rules (which govern how an AI answers queries) are publicly visible because “we believe users should be able” to see what we’re asking Grok. He added a “person” pushed the change to the system prompt, “because they thought that it would help,[but]this is obviously not in line with[our]values.
