Chinese carmaker Geely Holding Group will merge three existing divisions, which develop intelligent driving technology and employ together more than 3,000 engineering staff, into one, as part of a sweeping restructuring, according to the 21st Century Business Herald. This includes the hiring a senior executive from Huawei. Sources say that the revamp announced last week will combine the intelligent driving divisions from Geely’s electric car brand Zeekr, and its Hong Kong listed Geely Auto unit into a joint-venture called Chongqing Qianli Smart Driving Technology Co. According to public records, Wang Jun, who was previously the president of Huawei’s Smart Vehicle Unit, now heads the new entity, which was established in June by Geely and a government fund of Chongqing’s southwestern municipality, as well as artificial intelligence firm Megvii. Megvii announced in July 2024 a deal with Geely, the local government in Chongqing’s Liangjiang New Area, and Alibaba to jointly develop software defined vehicles in the city. Geely Auto is set to privatize Zeekr in the second half of this year.[TechNodereporting21st Century Business Herald (in Chinese]]
