GTA fans were actually hoping for an earlier release. The initial Rockstar press release slated the release of the game for 2025. The CEO of Take-Two, the owner of Rockstar Games, reported earlier this year that GTA VI would release in the “fall of calendar 2020.” However, rumors circulated since fall 2024 claiming that the development of Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed, and that the actual launch of the game would not take place until mid-2026.
