Exclusive: Visoid bags fresh funds for AI that speeds up 3D rendering for architects (19459000)

The Oslo-based startup Visoid raised EUR700,000.00 in seed funding for their AI software that helps architects transform their 3D models into stunning renders in seconds.

A good render can make the difference between winning and losing a client for architects and designers. Rendering is a complex process that requires a great deal of time, expertise, and money. Visoid is a tool that aims to disrupt the status-quo.

What started as a tool for architects to create beautiful visualisations led us on a quest to simplify and democratise visualisation itself,” said Joachim Holwech, co-founder. Here’s how it works:

Latest rumblings on the EU tech scene. A story from our wise old founder Boris. And some questionable AI artwork. Every week, it’s in your inbox for free. Sign up today!

You can import your 3D design into Visoid using a screenshot. You can use a text prompt to write down a general overview of what you want your design to look like. For example, “Scandinavian House in the Woods with Big Windows.” You can also specify more specific requirements, such as the lighting or background elements. Click “Render”

to generate your visualisation. You can download the final result in up to 4K resolution if you are happy with it. Visoid claims that this technology speeds up 3D rendering by up to 90%.

The company also promises to reduce costs. A typical architectural. A 3D render can cost between EUR90 and EUR9,000 per image. Visoid Premium software is available for only EUR55 per month.

The founders at US-based construction outfit PANL – one of Visoid clients – described the impact as a “game-changing” experience.

They said, “It allows for us to create beautiful content at a fraction of its price.”

AI is accelerating into architecture

PANL, however, is not the only company applying artificial intelligence to architectural design. According to a study, over 40% of architects now use AI tools. The Royal Institute of British Architects published a report last month.

Among these AI tools are OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is used for writing briefs. Other text-to-image creators include Stable Diffusion or Midjourney for creating early concept design. Visoid believes that its tool is unique.

“Unlike AI tools that create images from prompts or light references, Visoid utilizes architects’ 3D models to produce precise, true-to design renderings,” CEO Mark Szoke, co-founder of Visoid, told TNW.

“While some AI tools are more flexible and can generate concept ideas with less information, Visoid provides precise control and photorealistic visualisation – key reasons for our rapid growth in just one year.”

Since launching in 2023, Visoid has attracted customers in over 80 countries and generated more than 2.7 million images, with over 500,000 uploaded to its platform, the company said.

The startup’s progress caught the attention of VC firm Antler, which participated in the new seed funding round.

“The fact that they have reached a high ARR [annual recurring revenue] and attracted users from around the world while having spent very little money on marketing shows they have built something that creates real value for their customers,” said Anna Munthe-Kaas, associate partner at Antler.

Antler contributed to Visoid’s new funding alongside lead investor StartupLab, a Norwegian startup incubator and investor and construction giant OBOS.

Visoid will use the fresh capital to expand its team and reach new clients. Among the recent additions to the customer base is the Nordic Office of Architecture. One of Scandinavia’s leading architecture practices, the company has led mega projects including the new Oslo Airport and Norway’s Government Quarter.
