You might choose the AI assistant if you are happy with the options that Google offers in Gemini. The digital assistant you summon with a single button press or swipe from the corner is now the default option.

There is a wide range of AI assistants, from Google Gemini to Perplexity. You can set the two listed assistants as your default in Android. This means that it will be the default option when users activated it via the power-button shortcut, which has been around ever since Google Assistant. It’s handy if you want to use another AI assistant instead of Gemini.

ChatGPT’s newest beta has added an option to make AI your default option on Android (viaAndroid Authority (). This is a part of version 1.2025.070and the default digital assistance page now lists ChatGPT among a few other options, as long as they are all installed.

The app is clearly lacking in luster, as the beta version of the function is still in development. ChatGPT’s Voice Mode will be activated by long-pressing the Power button. A bubble overlay will appear on the screen. The app initially opens in chat mode but after a while, it switches to an overlay.

This overlay mode can be triggered by the new Quick Settings shortcut that was released at the start of 2025.
