OpenAI is not an exception. OpenAI is no exception. SensorTower, an analytics firm, reports that users in India spent $8 million on ChatGPT through in-app purchases between 2023 and 2019. This does not include purchases made via the ChatGPT website app. It’s also a fraction of what SensorTower estimates U.S. ChatGPT users have spent in-app. The lack of local pricing in India is likely to be a factor. OpenAI’s ChatGPT plan costs $20 per month (more than Rs1,700), which is expensive for a digital subscription.
