Organisations that use the Databricks or Snowflake platforms can use Capital One’s Databolt to secure their data.
Capital One’s software division has made a tool available that allows IT departments to improve data security by using data tokenisation.
Capital One’s business-to-business division has made its Databolt software for data tokenisation available on two major platforms: Databricks, and Snowflake.
Capital One describes the implementation of data tokenisation as a process of replacing raw information with a digital representation. In a In a blog post describing the benefits of this technology, the company stated: “In data safety, tokenisation replaces sensitive information with randomised, nonsensitive replacements, called tokens that have no traceable relation back to the original data.” Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (19459065) for ecommerce transactions.
Tokenisation can be used as an alternative to cryptography, but it is easier to integrate with existing IT systems. It allows cyber security chiefs to remove sensitive information from IT systems. This reduces the impact data loss caused by an IT security breach. It is a technique that is used in financial services for the protection of payment data. Capital One says that tokenisation is beneficial because it preserves data length and format. Data tokenisation maintains database relationships. This means that it can be implemented into existing IT systems and apps without breaking the way the applications process data.
McKinsey’s analysis suggests that tokenised financial assets could drive the market capitalisation to around $2tn in 2030. Tokenisation plays a crucial role in the operation of large language models, where words and sentences are converted into numerical values which can be processed.
Capital One stated that its implementation of Databolt’s data tokenisation allows companies to tokenise their sensitive data directly in Databricks or Snowflake. This makes it easier for businesses to protect sensitive data wherever it is located. Capital One says that IT security leaders will be able to strengthen data security while not slowing down innovation.
According to Desikan Madhvanur of Capital One Software’s senior vice-president and chief product and tech officer, “Today, companies manage data across a vast eco-system.” Integrating Databolt and Databricks with Snowflake will help companies secure their data wherever it is located, so that they can confidently develop applications and deploy AI models. Databricks Unity Catalog ( ). Capital One said that the integration allows Databolt users to define tokenisation policy, ingest Databricks groups for role-based control, initiate tokenisation tasks and configure workflows. It’s available on the Snowflake MarketplaceDatabolt uses Snowpark Container Services, Snowflake Native App Framework and Snowflake Native App Framework for native integration. Capital One says that the integration ensures sensitive data doesn’t need to leave the Snowflake environment of a customer.
Capital One stated that the integration of Databolt with the Snowflake platform enables customers to deploy their tokenisation engines directly in their Snowflake environments, define access for tokenisation using pre-existing Snowflake role and access tokenisation functionality via user-defined functions.
