In November 2024 Nie Pengcheng joined BYD’s Advanced Technology Research and development Center. He will be responsible for AI supercomputing, and may also be involved with AI applications.
BYD recruited experienced technical talent from large companies to quickly enhance its capabilities. Nie Pengcheng, who graduated in 2013, has worked in the field AI computing for almost 12 years. He has experience managing large-scale computing, developing foundational model, and participating in AI application development.
BYD announced in November 2024 that it would invest 100 billion yuan to develop artificial intelligence and automotive intelligent technology, aiming to achieve comprehensive vehicle intelligence advances and win the future technological debate power.
The Advanced Technology Research and Development Center will be a key department within BYD’s R&D strength, the New Technology Research Institute. It is expected to be established by the end of September, 2024. This center will provide computing power and algorithms to departments within BYD such as intelligent driving and intelligent cockpit. It will also support large models. It will serve as a “technology platform” to accelerate research and implementation of intelligent-related technologies.
Insiders revealed BYD’s Advanced Technology Research and Development Center would involve almost all popular models in the industry including base models and multimodal large models. Language large models and visual large models will also be included. Some of these models will be developed internally, while others in collaboration with other departments.
