Anthropic has revoked OpenAI’s access to Claude’s API after ChatGPT’s engineers were discovered using Claude’s coding tools.

Anthropic provides API access to Claude. This means OpenAI can also access it. Anthropic confirmed on Friday that it had revoked OpenAI’s access to Claude Code because the company was using its coding tool ahead of the GPT-5 release.
Claude Code is the preferred coding tool for coders worldwide, so it came as no surprise that OpenAI’s technical staff used our coding tools prior to the launch of GPT-5. Anthropic spokesperson Christopher Nulty said in a statement. Statement made to Wired.
Although it’s unclear exactly how OpenAI engineers used Claude Code, it’s possible that it was used to enhance GPT-5’s coding abilities. GPT-5 will launch next week, with “auto” as well as reasoning modes.
