AI app that transcribes audio or video without recording promises to safeguard your privacy.

A note-taking app powered by AI developed by Munich-based Bliro may offer a safer way to transcribe audio.

Bliro extracts relevant information from virtual or in-person conversations using machine learning algorithms and natural language processing. It generates structured notes for meetings and automates the follow-up tasks. So far, it’s pretty standard.

Bliro, unlike popular transcription software like Otter or Fireflies and Notta is not a bot which records your audio file before trancribing it. The platform does not record audio files, but instead transcribes them in real-time. The company stated that this ensures compliance with strict privacy requirements and security standards like GDPR. This also means that you don’t require the consent of the other party to record, streamlining your note-taking process. Maurice Schweitzer (co-founder of Bliro) told TNW the approach eliminates any risks associated with audio or video recordings.

A transcript lacks any personally identifiable elements such as voice or facial recognition. This makes it impossible to verify with absolute certainty who said what, he said. Schweitzer said that for those transcripts containing personal information such as names, the company prioritizes compliance at every stage.

Schweitzer and data scientist Martin Thoma co-founded Bliro, a transcription tool that prioritizes privacy, in 2022. The project was born out of AI research at Technical University of Munich.

Bliro does not record data and instead encrypts it. It stores the encrypted data on servers in Frankfurt. It does not share any data with third parties or its own employees without their explicit consent. The company also said that it does not use user data for AI model refinement.

Schweitzer said that many large companies do not use recording-based solutions because of privacy and compliance concerns. Bliro is the only viable solution for them.

Bliro is aimed at customer-facing teams that use the app to automate transcriptions of meetings, generate AI-driven summary summaries, create follow-up action, while maintaining privacy and complying with regulations. The app supports 15 languages.

Bliro announcedtoday that it had raised EUR2.8mn through a funding round, led by German early stage VC LEA Partners with participation from Dutch seed investor Rockstart and 468 Capital. Bliro has also launched an iOS app that transcribes and analyzes face-to-face conversation. The new funding will help accelerate product development and attract more customers. Schweitzer said that more than 1,000 companies use Bliro. This includes well-known German brands like ImmoScout24 and OMR.
