Agentic AI is here with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Agent, are you ready to give it creds and credit?

OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Agent brings you agentic AI. Are you ready to give this AI credit and credence? OpenAI released ChatGPT Agent, a new update that transforms the popular AI chatbot to a proactive taskmaster. This new feature allows ChatGPT operate on its virtual computer and handle complex jobs from research through to execution without constant input from the user.

It is designed to bridge between thinking and doing. This will revolutionize productivity in everyday workflows. Although it can technically perform complex tasks for you, you will need to provide credentials to access your accounts. Many of these accounts will be linked to credit cards or payment methods. ChatGPT Agent is a conversational AI tool that combines real-world capabilities with previous tools such as Operator for browser actions, deep research for information synthesis and Operator for browser actions.

Users can now tell it to perform tasks like planning meals, analysing competition, or creating presentations while maintaining context throughout the steps.

The browser session currently stops at the checkout so that it can add the right items to an online store and add them to the shopping cart, but it will stop short and ask permission before the final steps of placing the order or spending the money.

At first, this will provide comfort to users, but in a short time we’ll become comfortable with the Agents spending money on their behalf. We can then set spending limits, but still allow them to finish the process, and have the goods arrive at your door or in your inbox.

For example, you could limit the amount that the agent can spend on Amazon. Then, when you ask it to order something, the experience will be seamless as long as the order is under $500 per week, month or year.

Key features

The Visual Browser

With this tool, the agent can interact with websites using a graphical interface. They can click links, fill out forms, or even handle logins, with the user’s confirmation, for security.

Text Based Browser

The agent uses a text-based browser to retrieve and filter web data quickly. ChatGPT Agent is able to run commands directly in a virtual terminal. This allows code execution, file management and other technical tasks. Direct API Integration

The agent connects directly to APIs, and ChatGPT connectors such as Gmail or GitHub in order to automate actions and pull personal data across platforms.

Dynamic tool selection

Agent intelligently selects the right tools for the task, switching seamlessly and preserving the full task history to ensure accurate results.

Collaboration Workflow

Users are able to interrupt, give feedback, or steer an agent mid-task. Notifications can be sent via the mobile application when the task is completed.

Editable outputs

Creates spreadsheets, presentations, and other files which users can edit. Beta support is available for presentation creation.

Safety is a priority. Built-in mitigations are in place to mitigate risks, such as prompt injections and real-world action requiring explicit approval from the user. OpenAI has classified it as a high capability in biological domains and chemical domains, under their Preparedness framework. They have implemented safeguards such as refusal training and monitoring. ChatGPT Agent for Australian users is now available to paid subscribers. Full access will be available soon outside restricted regions such as the EEA. Pro users receive 400 messages per month. Plus and Team tiers get 40 messages, with the option to purchase extra credits. Pricing starts at A$31 for Plus (approximately based on the current exchange rate), A$308 per month for Pro and A$38 for Team per user on annual plans.

The launch of OpenAI highlights the company’s push for more agentic AI where tools do not just respond to problems but actively solve them. It’s exciting for creators and professionals, but the emphasis on safety ensures responsible usage. As AI advances, features such as this could redefine efficiency for tech-savvy Australia.
