Adobe has quietly been working on AI for some time now, and it is often overlooked. Today, Adobe added text-to video capability that is impressive. It’s also clearly superior to OpenAI’s Sora.

“Firefly was designed for creative professionals who are looking for tools that offer unmatched creative control, while also being IP-friendly. These tools can be used in both ideation as well as production.

We’ve heard from beta customers that it’s a game changer for ideating concepts and creating stunning videos. We can’t wait see how the creative communities use it to tell their stories.”

David Wadhwani is the president of Adobe’s digital media business.

Adobe’s offering includes a number of great options, such as the ability to select your aspect ratio (16:9 widescreen or portrait 9:16).

It will initially support 1080p resolution, but soon a model with a lower resolution for ideation and rapid iteration as well as a model with a 4K resolution for professional-level production work will be available.

You can also control the shot size. This allows you to play director by selecting from ‘Extreme Closeup, Close Up Shot, Medium Shot, Long Shot, Extreme Longshot’.

You can also select the camera angle. Choose from ‘Aerial Shot, Eye Level Shot, High Angle Shot, Low Angle shot, Top Down shot’.

You can control the motion with 8 presets. These include (Zooming in, zooming out, moving left, moving right, tilting up, tilting down, static, handheld). Other text-to-video services don’t offer these options.

You don’t even have to use these. Just create your prompt and hit go. The results are impressive.

Firefly currently only allows 5 second clips. This limits its usefulness. However, this is a beta version, so I expect that the restriction will be temporary.

How much?

The service is free, but you’re limited in the amount of content you can create. If you are an Adobe subscriber you will have a certain amount of generative credit that you can use when you use the text-to image or text-to video.

Adobe has introduced two new Adobe Firefly plans, Firefly Standard & Firefly Pro. Firefly Standard plans offer 2,000 video/audio credit per month and up to 20 five second 1080p video generation, starting at $9.99 US ($16.49 AUS/$19.32 NZD). Firefly Pro plans offer 7,000 video/audio credit per month and up to 70 five second 1080p video generation, starting at $29.99 US ($49.49 AUS/$58.08 NZD).

Testing

I used a range of prompts to test the service. Each one produced impressive results. The video creation takes a few minutes, but the results are usually worth it.

I asked Adobe Firefly for a video showing an Australian Cobberdog running in an Australian backyard with a trampoline as the background. This was the end result.

I remember trying to use a similar prompt when Sora launched, and this is much better.

Let us know if you have tried Adobe Firefly’s text-to video service and if it is better than OpenAI’s offering.
