China’s Xpeng Motors said on Thursday that it has developed the world’s first system solution for augmented reality head-up displays (AR HUD) that could be integrated in its artificial intelligence-defined, intelligent vehicles, in a much-anticipated partnership with technology giant Huawei. The company boasted its 87-inch AR head-up display unit with over 12,000nits of brightness is “probably the best of its type” for in-car GPS navigation. It leveraged Huawei’s optical technologies. Xpeng stated that the technology includes not only common HUD elements such as speedometers, but also uses virtual signs to highlight the navigation routes accurately, indicate lane markers correctly during heavy rain, and remind owners what the car’s assistance driving system will do. The G7, a mid-size SUV, will debut later this month. It is the first model that will feature the technology.[TechNodereport
