XPeng Aeroht’s Modular Flying Car Makes Its Debut Overseas

XPeng Aeroht revealed its latest split-type flying vehicle, ‘Land Aircraft Carrier,’ at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 8, 2019. Wang Tan, vice president and co-founder of XPeng Aeroht announced at the press conference that the CES exhibition was the overseas debut of ‘Land Aircraft Carrier. We have created a new color for the body and hope that technology enthusiasts around the world will like it. The ‘Land Aircraft Carrier,’ currently has over 3,000 pre-orders. It plans to begin deliveries in 2026.

Wang Tan announced at the scene that “land aircraft carriers” has so far released two car colours. Four car colors are expected to be launched for the mass-produced models to meet the needs of individual customers. The two car colors that have been revealed are currently open for suggestions from the public. Proposals with the most votes will become the official names.

The ‘land based aircraft carrier’ is divided in two parts, the land vehicle and flying vehicle. The flying vehicle has a six-wheeled design with a rear-wheel steering system and 6×6 all-wheel-drive. It can carry a lot of weight and be used off-road. The vehicle’s overall length is approximately 5.5 meters. Its width is approximately 2 meters and its height is approximately 2 meters. It can be parked on a standard parking spot, enter underground parking lots and be driven by a driver with a normal license. It is also equipped with the first automatic separation combined mechanism on board that automatically stores aircraft into the mothership’s reserves compartment, and functions as a mobile charging station. When fully fueled, it can refuel aircraft up to six times while in motion or parked.

The ‘land based aircraft carrier’ has a six-rotor dual ducted configuration. The arms and propellers can be folded. The main body structure and propellers made of carbon fibre material provide a high strength-toweight ratio. A 270deg panorama cockpit offers a wide flight view for both manual and automated driving modes. Xiaopeng Huitian invented a single-lever system that is simple to operate and easy to learn. In automatic mode, it allows for one-key takeoff and automatic route planning along with flight operations. It also has multi-dimensional environment perception and landing vision assistance.

The flying part also features a full-domain redundant design, where key systems like power supply, fly control, supply, power supply, and communication have backup redundancy. This ensures a seamless transition to maintain safe flights that meet civil aviation standards. Sign up for 5 articles free per month !
