xAI adds a memory feature to Grok

Elon Musk’s AI firm, xAI is slowly bringing Grok’s chatbot up to parity with its top rivals, like ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

xAI announced a new “memory feature” for Grok on Wednesday night. This allows the bot to remember past conversations with a particular user. If you ask Grok to make recommendations, it will now give you more personalized answers, assuming that you have used it enough for it to “learn”. ChatGPT, which has had a similar feature for years, recently upgraded it to refer to a user’s complete chat history. Gemini has a persistent memory that allows it to customize its responses to each person.

A post on the official Grok page on X reads, “Memories can be seen.” “[Y]You can see what Grok knows, and choose what you want to forget.

Grok’s new memory feature will be available in beta for users in the EU and U.K., but not in the EU and U.K. The Data Controls page can be found in the Settings menu. Individual “memories” may be deleted by clicking the icon below the memory on the Grok chat interface for web (and Android soon).

xAI has confirmed that it is working on bringing memory to Grok on X.
