White House unveils sweeping plan to “win” global AI race through deregulation

Prior to the White House releasing its AI strategy, over 90 organizations introduced an alternative “People’s AI Action Plan” on Tuesday. This coalition criticized the Trump administration’s proposal as primarily benefiting the technology sector, labeling it “a substantial giveaway to Big Tech” that favors corporate agendas over the public good. The alliance comprises labor unions, environmental advocacy groups, and consumer rights organizations.

“The White House’s AI strategy reflects the interests of major technology corporations focused on deploying AI systems that act upon us rather than empower us,” stated Sarah Myers West and Amba Kak, co-executive directors of the AI Now Institute, which played a key role in coordinating the coalition’s statement.
