Meta will test a monthly limit for the number of messages users can send people who haven’t responded. Here are the details. Meta has
TechCrunch confirmed that it will begin testing soon a limit on the number of messages users and businesses are allowed to send to people who don’t reply.
The report states:
All messages sent by users and businesses to others will be counted against the new monthly limit, unless a response is received. If you meet someone and send them three messages at a conference, this counts against the limit. This is not the first time Meta tried to address the growing problem of spam that affects WhatsApp’s 3 billion users. In recent years, Meta has introduced a number of features and safeguards that target political and commercial spam. These measures have only been partially effective as spammers quickly find ways to get around them.
Meta is taking action to combat spam as WhatsApp prepares for username support. This will allow users to connect to each other without sharing their phone number, potentially increasing spam opportunities.
Although the company has not announced a release date yet, it has been working on an Android handle reservation screen. This week, similar code appeared in the iOS beta.
