Vivo’s X200 Ultra will make those who don’t own it envious. This includes almost everyone outside China, as vivo hasn’t announced plans to sell the Ultra outside its home market. We know that some of you are going to try to import it, but the majority can only sigh with wistfulness.

The camera upgrades are more important – the 50MP sensor is now behind a 35mm focal length lens. The ultra-wide camera has a 50MP 1/1.28 sensor (the Pro has only a 1/2.76″) The 200MP 85mm periscope is now even more impressive thanks to a wider aperture (f/2.3 as opposed to f/2.7).
vivo’s X200 Ultra is priced at CNY 6,500 ($900/EUR775), for the 12/256GB base model. The top model is a 16GB/1TB with satellite connectivity, priced at CNY 8,000. Comparatively, the vivo X200 Pro is priced at CNY 5,200 (for a 12/256GB smartphone).
If you look at other Ultras, Oppo Find X8 Ultra has the same CNY 6,500 (12/256GB) price. This one has an ultra-wide 50MP lens, a 70mm periscope with a 50MP sensor, and a 23mm lens that is more smartphone-like. It also has a 50MP sensor, a 1″ sensor, a 50MP 70mm, and a 50MP 135mm.
A 12/256GB model is also available for CNY 6,500. It has a 23mm 1-inch main camera, two periscopes (50MP 70mm and 100MP) and a 50MP ultra wide. The Chinese model comes with a 6,000mAh battery while the global variant only has 5,410mAh.
Vivo X200s feels iteratively upgraded over the vanilla version X200. It is, but vivo positions it to be a successor of the X100s last year, despite the fact that it was a bigger phone (6.78″ vs. the 6.67″ display on the X200s). Comparing it to the X200 (which was a non-plus 9400), the chipet is Dimensity 9402+ (from 9400) and the storage is UFS 4.1 (up from 4.0). It also increases battery capacity by 400mAh, to 6,200mAh, and adds wireless charging at 40W.

The vivo Ultra is a drool worthy device, but the X200s has a lower price and solid hardware. It’s an excellent value for money device. Would you buy one if you had the chance?
