This week, people are starting to get their hands on a new M4 MacBook Air. They’re posting a lot of information about its performance and the color of the new Sky Blue. While editing photos in Lightroom Classic, Vadim Yuryev (19459079) a YouTuber, noticed that the six efficiency cores of the laptop were handling the CPU workload almost entirely.
Woah!! Apple’s MacBook Air M4 is pushing this CPU workload onto all 6 Efficiency cores, while the four Performance cores are barely used. Compare this to the M3’s (right photo) where the four performance cores are being used more.

Although we don’t know the reason for this change, its purpose, or if Lightroom Classic is affected, it could have significant benefits. The battery life could be improved and temperatures kept down by keeping the efficiency cores active and limiting activity on the performance ones.
Despite this, we do not know how well the software runs in this state. We can assume that Yuryev is pointing it out to show it off because it is working fine but we are unsure.
This is not impossible to be a bug. After all, the performance cores exist for a reason. The sheer amount of activity in the efficiency cores, while the performance cores are almost unused, is quite strange.
With outlets such as Wccftech, and tech influencers all over the world experimenting with this model, we’ll probably find out soon if this was an accident or a feature of the new MacBook Air.

MacBook Air refresh with M4 silicon might arrive within a week
A new version of MacBook Air powered by Appleās M4 processor is right around the corner, it seems, and might be launched within a week. āApple is preparing to make a Mac-related announcement as early as this coming week,ā reports Bloomberg, adding that the reveal is imminent.
The current-gen MacBook Air with M3 silicon was announced in the first week of March in 2024, and it seems Apple is sticking with its refresh schedule rather strictly for its popular entry-level laptop. The machine will likely arrive in 13-inch and 15-inch formats, just like its predecessor.
Apple is expected to launch MacBook Air with M4 in March
The next-gen MacBook Air laptops featuring the M4 upgrade are just a few weeks off. Bloomberg reports that Apple is reducing inventory of the current model and preparing the M4-equipped trim to launch in March. Apple is unlikely make any design changes. It will likely stick to the aesthetic formula that it introduced with the MacBook Air M2. The M4 silicon is the most significant change. It improves processing power and efficiency. M4 MacBook Air performance is almost on par with Pro models
The next MacBook Air, the M4 MacBook Air, will be Apple’s lightest and fastest laptop. A recent benchmark suggests the device could have slight performance improvements over the latest MacBook Pro. Apple is expected announce the new laptop in 13-inch or 15-inch versions in March. On February 19, a device that was suspected to be the M4 MacBook Air appeared on the Geekbench 6 Benchmark. The results were compared to other Apple products such as the M4 MacBook Pro, and the 13-inch M4 Apple iPad Pro.
