Tencent Launches AI Content Detection Tool for Images and Text

On January 17, Tencent, a Chinese tech giant, has introduced AI-generated tools for image and text recognition.

Zhuque Lab developed by Tencent’s Hunyuan Security Teamuses advanced AI technology in its detection tools to determine within seconds whether an image or a text was AI-generated.

The Zhuque Lab detection system can distinguish between AI-generated and authentic images by analyzing the multi-dimensional differences. The following are key aspects:

Logical Inconsistencies : AI-generated images are often characterized by elements that defy the common sense. For example, a cat or dog smoking a cigar is a scenario that is clearly incompatible with real life.

Watermarks, either explicit or implicit: Many AI-generated pictures contain visible or invisible watermarks that identify them as synthetic. These markings may not be visible to the naked eye but the detection tool can identify them with precision.

Latent Features: AI generated images can also display features that are invisible to the human eyes. AI-generated images, for example, often display localized bright spots in textures when the HSV color space is adjusted. This characteristic is absent in real photos.

To ensure high accuracy, a dataset of 1.4 millions positive and negative samples was used to train the system, which covered diverse generation scenarios.

Zhuque Lab has also developed an AI-generated text detector tool. It analyzes large datasets of AI-generated and human-written text to train models that can identify subtle differences.

The text detection system uses a similar approach to the image tool. It measures the overlap between the analyzed contents and AI model outputs in order to estimate the likelihood that AI is the author.

Tencent revealed Zhuque Lab originally developed these tools to optimise training datasets for Hunyuan AI. The lab is aiming to meet the growing demand for reliable detection solutions as AI-generated content becomes more prevalent.

Zhuque Lab plans to expand by developing tools that detect AI-generated videos. Sign up for 5 articles free per month !
