Siri’s AI Upgrade is Coming, but Not Reportedly Until Spring 2026.

Apple seems to be progressing on a major software update that would expand Siri’s capabilities and incorporate more AI. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the Siri update has been delayed.

Internal release window for spring 2026

This update, which may arrive with iOS version 26.4, would be a follow-up to the features and updates Apple announced at 2024’s WWDC. Since then, Siri updates that were supposed incorporate Apple Intelligence and other features have not materialized. The company’s AI efforts have also failed to impress tech enthusiasts.

Siri’s new capabilities would allow it to control apps across multiple devices. Bloomberg’s report claims that Siri’s internal development has been chaotic, and a major update in the spring may not be a certainty. A preview version could be released at that time, with the full release scheduled for the iPhone launch in 2026 later that year.

Fortunately, AI doesn’t play a major role in people’s decisions to buy phones. CNET’s survey, published this week, found that only 11% of people upgrade their phones because of AI features.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the update. Apple has been vague about the next Siri update, stating only that it will be available. “in the coming year.”

Amazon also has had similar problems with Alexa, their personal assistant software, available on devices made by Amazon and other companies. Alexa products are losing money, and the company is preparing to roll out Alexa Plus. This will include new AI-driven features as well as a fee for those without Amazon Prime. This rollout was also delayed.

Why is Siri so slow?

According to Vikas Sharma of Quandary Peak Research, the integration of AI into a voice assistant like Siri is more complex than first appears. Sharma says. “Hallucination and inconsistency are major concerns — these systems can potentially trigger the wrong APIs, leading to incorrect or unintended actions.”

Sharma says that in typical Apple fashion, the company could be delaying release until they feel it has a better polished product. He says. Sharma cites the recent changes in leadership at Siri to show that Apple Intelligence remains a top priority. Apple would do well, he says to partner with or acquire a high-profile AI company to send a strong signal that they are serious about leading this space. Sharma says that Apple should also create more messaging centered around Siri. He says

“To change the perception that it’s lagging behind in AI, Apple needs to broaden its focus on AI and communicate its progress more frequently and transparently,” .
