OpenAI’s Board of Directors has responded

to Elon Musk’s bid to purchase the company. Bret Taylor, OpenAI chair, said in a statementthat “OpenAI isn’t for sale and the board unanimously rejected Mr. Musk’s latest attempt to undermine his competition.”

Musk, along with a coalition, offered to purchase OpenAI earlier this week for $97.4 Billion. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded quickly on X to the news, saying, “no thanks but we will purchase twitter for $9.74billion if you wish.” The board must do what is best for the nonprofit and that will mean proving that Altman’s plan to spin off leaves it in a much better position than Musk’s. Musk’s attorneys said in a court documenton Wednesday that the billionaire would withdraw his offer if OpenAI agreed to remain a non-profit company. Taylor said that this concession was not on the table

. Taylor wrote that any reorganization would strengthen OpenAI and its mission of ensuring AGI benefits everyone. Correction, 14th February: An earlier version of the article incorrectly quoted Sam Altman saying he would buy Twitter for $97.4 Billion. He said $9.74 Billion.
