OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT’s memory feature to include the ability to reference and remember all past conversations.
Memory is not a new feature and has been available for more than a month. ChatGPT’s Memory feature can save conversations – especially when you ask it to remember something.
If you ask ChatGPT, for example, to remember that bullet points are not your thing, it will avoid them in future conversations.
The catch is that ChatGPT can’t remember everything, and it may mix up conversations at some point. This is now possible with the new version Memory.
OpenAI confirms that the new version of Memory may change how you use ChatGPT.
Sam Altman, co-founder of OpenAI, confirmed in a post at X that ChatGPT Memory now references all your past interactions. Sam wrote
“This is a surprisingly great feature imo, and it points at something we are excited about: ai systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized,”
You can disable the Memory feature in Settings if you don’t wish ChatGPT to keep track of everything. You can also use the Temporary Chat feature. ChatGPT Memory is currently only available to $200 Pro subscribers. It will be available for $20 Plus subscribers in the near future, but it’s not known when it will be available to free users.
