OpenAI confirms that it will combine multiple models into GPT-5. This is expected to be released in the summer.
ChatGPT has too many models that are capable of performing different tasks. All models have the same names, which can be confusing.
Another issue is that OpenAI maintains a “o” line-up for reasoning capabilities, whereas the 4o and other model have multimodality.

We don’t yet know when GPT-5 is going to be available for everyone, but Sam Altman says it will happen in the summer.
