An OpenAI executive assured team members that the company leadership had not “stood idly by” after Meta poached a number senior researchers.
Chief Research Officer Mark Chen wrote, “I feel like someone has broken in and stolen something right now.” Wired obtained a Slack messagethat explains the situation.
In reaction to what appears as a Meta hiring frenzy, Chen said he, CEO Sam Altman and other OpenAI leadership have been working “around-the-clock to talk to those who have offers” and they’ve been “more proactive than ever before.” They’ve also “recalibrated comp, and are scoping out innovative ways to recognize and award top talent.” Altman complained on a podcast about Meta’s “$100 million” signing bonuses, a description that Meta executives have pushed against internally.
