after rolling out Sora outside the US.
- OpenAI will reportedly add Sora into the ChatGPT application
- There is no timeline yet for the integration
- Sora’s full experience will remain a separate app.
After launching in the US in December and going live earlier this week for a bunch European countries, OpenAI’s Sora video generation tool is expanding rapidly – and it is planned to eventually integrate it within the ChatGPT interface.
This is according to discussions during a company meeting as reported by TechCrunch. Sora is currently on its own website and not part of the ChatGPT mobile or web apps, which include image-generation capabilities.
Sora’s product lead Rohan Shai has reportedly stated that OpenAI plans to expand the use of Sora and to enhance the AI video maker’s features and tools. It seems likely that Sora will also remain a standalone experience. Sahai acknowledged that the version of Sora included in ChatGPT might not be as comprehensive or complete as the current web-based tool. The integration is not yet in place to avoid cluttering the ChatGPT interface.
More on the way
There is no timeline at this time, but Sora in ChatGPT may help drive more paid subscriptions. Right now, you have to be a ChatGPT plus ($20/month) or ChatGPT pro ($200/month) subscriber in order to use Sora.
Depending on how much money you pay, you get different limits for video resolution and number of videos. Each user receives a certain amount of credits per month. Videos that are longer or of higher quality will cost more credits.
Since the same user credentials can be used to sign in to both ChatGPT, and Sora. This means that some of the work has already been done. The Sora site has some elements that would be hard to fit into ChatGPT, such as a featured video showcase.
Sahai also reportedly said that an upgraded version of the AI model that runs underneath Sora was on the way. He also said that OpenAI worked on an image creator powered by Sora, which could produce more realistic images. Stay tuned.
