OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a press release that Germany is known for its technical excellence, academic excellence, industrial innovation, and industrial leadership. “Opening our office in Germany will allow us to help more people, businesses and institutions benefit from AI.” According to the press release, OpenAI had been discussing the opening of a German satellite with German officials since at least 2023. According to the startup, Germany has the most users, paying subscriptions, and API developers who are building on OpenAI technology. OpenAI’s spokesperson informed TechCrunch via email that the office would hire for go-to market, global affairs and communications roles at first. They declined to disclose the number of positions.
