OpenAI claims that Operator Agent now uses o3 models, which means it is now significantly better in reasoning capabilities. Operator, which is currently in research preview, lets users delegate web tasks. You can use it for repetitive tasks such as filling out forms and ordering products.
Operator isn’t exactly new and has been around since January 2025, but only those who pay for a $200 Pro and Enterprise subscription have access to it.
I recently reported that OpenAI is planning to improve Operator and turn it into a “very useful tool.”
While we are yet to see any meaningful improvements to the UX, OpenAI It has been confirmed by microsoft that Operator is now o3.
Prior to this, the web agent used 4o models that did not use reasoning to automate tasks. Operator is more accurate and persistent when interacting with browsers using o3.
“Now Operator is more persistent and accurate when interacting with the browser, improving overall task success rate. Responses are also more clear, thorough and better structured,” The company noted.
“Operator continues to be available as a research preview to ChatGPT Pro users globally. This upgraded model is only available in Operator in ChatGPT.”
But the question remains, would you pay $200 for an automated grocery shopping system and similar tasks? OpenAI is testing ways to make it more useful. OpenAI plans to make the Operator feature available to $20 Plus subscribers.
